Bring User-centric Business Strategy to the Philippines: Recap of InsightX Manila Chapter

For UXTesting’s third Global InsightX Chapter, we visited the Philippines’ capital city, Manila. Together with our community partner Acceler8 by UnionSPACE, we hosted InsightX Manila Chapter on May 21st, 2019. We were excited to see 70+ attendees coming from large-scale corporates including Smart Communication, Globe Telecom, UnionBank of the Philippines, BDO Unibank, Cebu Pacific Air, ABS-CBN News, Techtonic Summit and more.

With four incredible industry experts, topics relating to user-centric business strategies and UX trends with new technology evolution were actively discussed. Attendees were highly engaged and mentioned it was a “very insightful event”, “exceeded expectations”, and was “full of inspiration and practical tips” for them to apply.

At Global InsightX Chapters, UXTesting welcomes professionals from different industries, specifically targeting at C-level executives, managers from corporates and SMB and entrepreneurs who are interested in UX/CX strategy and insights. During these events, we invite outstanding local speakers to share their hands-on experiences and insights. Topics will be shared related to experience from diverse aspects, covering Business Strategy, UX Strategy, Industry Trends to Data-driven Design. In addition to the lightning talks from our invited speakers, a panel discussion will be held giving the audience an opportunity to ask questions, share and exchange knowledge and ideas.

More importantly, InsightX Manila Chapter would not have been a success without the generous support from Acceler8 by UnionSPACE, our community partner. We held this event at Acceler8 Legaspi. They provide hybrid instant offices and coworking space with several centers in Southeast Asia as well as share the same vision to create values for communities.

InsightX Manila Chapter started off with the first lightning talk from Chris Manguera, CMO/ Head of Marketing & App Product of Mynt. He is experienced in leading end-to-end marketing across consumers and enterprise verticals driving 5X user growth the past year. With his talk on “Scaling Financial Services with Data, Design, and Technology”, we learned more about growth through technology and innovation. It was very interesting to hear Chris specifically addressing his talk to the Philippines audience by giving useful insights into this market. Attendees were genuinely interested and eager to learn how to aggregate data that drives ultimate value to their customers and how the better use of data can maximize an impact.

The evening proceeded with an insightful talk from Aldrich Huang, CEO & Co-founder of UXTesting. Aldrich addressed, “New Era of Experience Industry with Marketing 4.0 Strategy”. In his talk, he explained the importance of UX for corporates and its impact on business growth and profitability. Key to bringing better UX for companies is to truly understand your users by exposing their unmet needs. As our CEO, Aldrich uncovers user needs based on qualitative and qualitative data in order to bring more joy to users.

Another highlight of the evening was the panel discussion on “Data-driven Design for Experience”. It provided the perfect moment for attendees to join the discussion and share their opinion regarding user-centric business strategies. For the discussion, we also invited Denise Haak, CEO of QUIDDITY Usability Labs, specializing in end-to-end user experience design and consultancy, and Elymar Apao, Founder of UX Philippines and Customer Experience Manager of JG Summit Holdings.

It was rewarding to see that attendees were highly engaged and eager to raise questions to the panelists. Questions were asked to specific panelists based on their position and experience, including, “Is data analytics an integral part of making better design decisions and UX improvement?”, “How can you leverage the importance of UX in a tech start-up company?”, “What does the ideal UX Team look like?” and “What do you recommend for a large organization; hiring in-house UX designers or get an outside partner?”.

Without a doubt, InsightX Manila Chapter has been very successful. Attendees shared many of their positive responses with us. Most of our attendees were especially very satisfied with how informative and insightful the event was. Attendees commented, “This was better than any UX related talks from the past where a lot of talks mostly was centered to whoever knows more jargons than others”, and “UX concepts and importance are explained in a relevant context.” Specifically, the panel discussion was highly appreciated, giving the audience the floor to discuss, express their experience, exchange knowledge and inspiration.

It was our pleasure to host our fourth global meetup in Manila, the Philippines. Many thanks to all the industry experts, Chris, Elymar, and Denise and our local community partner Acceler8 by UnionSPACE. It has been a very valuable and rewarding experience to meet so many local Filipinos coming together to share their experience relating to UX.

For our upcoming global UX meetup in South East Asia, we are delighted to inform that UXTesting will be going to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In collaboration with community partner WORQ, the meetup will be held on the June 25th, 2019 from 6.30 PM - 9.30 PM (PT) at WORQ KL Gateway. Reservation is required to attend this meetup.
